Great Little Gift Box Super easy to make

 Hi Crafters

Thank you for stoppping by. Well you seem to like the gift bags and I have been asked for some gift box ideas to go with them.

Here is the first medium box. Super quick and easy to make and requires very few items so hopefully everyone will be able to have a go.

You Need

2 pieces of pretty patterned card A4 size

1 piece of card from a Lidl pad of card stock as these are 9.5” wide, although you could cut down a 12 x 12 piece. The Lidl card is good thickness and has every colour in the pad.                                           2 pieces of ribbon to coordinate 12” long                                          A score board and cutter

 From the patterned card cut 2 pieces 4& 5/8” wide by 10 ¾” long   Score both at 4 ½”, 6 ¼”

Round the edges on both sheets if you prefer a soft edge look

Lay a piece of ribbon each end of the back side of 1 piece  and adhere to the card in the centre. Glue or use red extra sticky tape and glue the other patterned piece on top so that the pattern is on the outside of each piece. Put aside to dry. When it is nearly dry carefully go over the score lines to bend them into shape.

Whilst it is drying make the base box Cut the card to 9.5” square and score at 1” and 2.5/8” on all 4 sides

Cut the scored card ready to fold up into a box. This style of scoring gives the box a double card side for extra strength                        With the card facing you cut the base corner up to the 2nd score line and cut off with a small taper                                                         Next cut up the second section of the corner to the 2nd score line (but do not cut off) taper the sides and cut off the bottom section   Cut up the other side to match                                                       Turn the card over and do the same the opposite end                     You should now have a piece that looks like this

Fold and burnish all the score lines

Glue or tape the left and right hand panels and fold in

Gluing one end at a time Put tape or glue on the top panels turn the card over and put glue  on the corner tabs.

Turn back and fold the corner tabs in to line up with the edge of the card and fold the top over the flaps, stick down.

Do the same at the bottom edge and then run your bone folder along the sides inside the box to firm them.

Next if you wish to cover the sides of the box to match the outside, from the spare patterned card cut 3 panels 1.5” wide by 4” long and adhere to three sides, the 4th side  will be glued to the base and lid.

Put glue or tape to the back panel of the box. This is the only tricky bit so you may prefer a wet glue that will allow some wriggle room.

Lay the base card on the table and line up the back panel to sit just a tiny fraction above the first score line and centre it in the middle of the card so you have the same amount of edging around the box. When you are happy with the spacing stick it down

I hope you can see the score line and how the box is centred here.   Next glue the base of the box to the base card.

 Your box is now complete

A box to set off any gift and give pleasure to the recipient. Once you have mastered this basic box concept you have the basis for boxes of various sizes. If you want to increase or decrease the size, it is easier to upsize your box first and then resize your outer structure to fit.

Here it is with T-lights and a craft gift of washi tape and embellishments

Or why not add a mirror to the inside of the lid and put some hair bows and adornments for a young girl, or some nail polish/hand cream, for a colleague or friend.

Stationary and  Chocolate are always welcome and make great Teachers gifts and with this pretty gift box any gift will be well presented.

I will be back soon with a great duo of small gift boxes that can be made from one sheet of 12 x 12.

The Gift Bag with Dimension

 Hi Crafters

Here I am continuing my Gift bag and box makes

This bag measure 5.75" square and will hold those wider pots such as Candles, Body creams etc, also you can use it as a type of hamper bag.

So if you want to make a bag of Mexican or Italian goodies these are great. Or for home made cookies. They also fold flat for storing so you can make them in advance.

This is another one from Sam Calcot, with my own handle system .

You need

2 12 x 12 papers                                                                                   2 pieces of coordinating solid colour card 2" x 5.75"                         2 pieces of ribbon 22” long

Score both sheets the same                                                              With pattern side square on score board                                      Score at 5.75”, 11.5”                                                                    Turn and score at 5.75, 8.5/8”                                                      Turn back and score at 8.5/8” down to first score line

Cut off the bottom ½” and taper piece left top and bottom on both pieces Taper right bottom square

Place the 2 pieces together using the side panels *

Sam adds ribbon handles this way:

Lay double sided tape 1” in from middle line on front back square to just  below the half way score line and again the other side of the square 1” in from side.  Add ribbon. Repeat the front side but cut off the ribbon at the base line on the front.

Put the box together laying the front flap down last.

My bag is finished:

* Turn the square over and glue the base panels together. CHoose your front panel first and then glue the side panels onto the back panel finishing with the front panel, lining up the sides to keep the bag square.

Take the 2 pieces of plain card and score at 1", I round my front corners.  Check they fit neatly over the top of the bag and make any adjustment before the next stage. Place on top of each other and make a mark at 1.25" from each end on the score line. Punch your holes on the marks, this way each side will match. Thread your ribbon through from the front leaving about 1.25" inside and stick down with tape ( i use double sided tape). Take the top of the tape off and then lay a line of tape or glue both sides of the handle band. Line up the handle band with the top of the bag and fold over, repeat on the other side.

And then fold flat for storing

I have these four bags in my box ready to use at Christmas

Hope you enjoy making this bag. Check out Sam's video on YouTube for additional help with putting it together or if you want to add the handles with her design.

Back soon with a great little gift Box.

Large Gift Bags

 Hi Crafters

I am all about the gift boxes and bags at the moment. I have been crafting away making different sized large carriers and medium size wide carriers to take those wide candles and jars.

I will share these with you over the next couple of weeks as well as some boxes I have made to sell in my Etsy shop.

These gorgeous carrier bags have been made from  2 sheets of 12 x 12 patterned card and 1 sheets of plain 12 x 12 or you could use 2 sheets of A4

Another great idea from Sam Calcott, you have probably noticed I am quite a fan.

However hers close with this ribbon drawn through the two sides of the bag, looks good but you have to take the ribbon out to place the items in the bag, so I have decided the next ones I make will have handles either side and a different closure. I will post my new version in a couple of weeks .

Meantime to make this you will need:

2 sheets of 12 x 12 patterned card stock

1 sheet of 12 x 12 plain/coordinating card stock

piece of ribbon approximately 22" long

The patterned sheets you score at 3" If there is a pattern to your card place your card on the scoreboard with pattern sideways so the 3" score line is at the base of the card.

With the plain card cut 2 pieces 4" wide, 1 piece 3" wide leaving 1" strip for the handle

The 4" pieces are the side panels and score these at 0.5", 3.5"

Turn and score at 3", 4.5", Turn back and score at 2" to the first score line using a ruler and score tool score from the base of the 2" line diagonally both sides to the next score line, this is scored to the inside of the 1/2" border

Cut off the 1/2" borders on bottom 3" panel and taper the centre section.

The 3" piece score at 1" and corner the bottom edge, as this is the front panel. Burnish all score lines on all pieces, particularly the scored lines on the side panel as this allows the bag to be fold down for storage

To put together

Glue the 2 patterned pieces together along the 3" base piece              Open up and lay the side panels each side gluing down the the 3" tapered section so it butts to the outer line of the 3" base and can then fold up easily                                                                                 Next glue or tape the side 1/2" sections and pull up the main section front matching the tops and then running down the side. Do front and back seperately as it makes it easier to line up the papers when dealing with one side at a time.

The bag should fold over to store flat

Adhere the 3" panel over the front of the bag. Once in place mark where you want to punch out the holes for the ribbon to be threaded front and back ensuring they line up before punching them out, thread the ribbon through and tie a bow

Lastly corner the handle strip both end lay to the outer side of the back holes and and adher down. This is best if you secure one side first and then curve the handle over to the other side and secure. You could use brads but you woudl need to cover the inside of the bag over the brads so they do not catch with some card circles.

Some of my bags will be available to buy on Ebay. ANd I am looking forward to making my Vintage Christmas gift bags using the new Natures Garden papers from Crafters Companion. As I write this page it is 16weeks to Christmas, so time to get making.

Happy Crafting

Fabulous 2 Tier Box

 Hi Crafters

Todays post is all about an amazing box I have made after seeing Sam Calcott's video. Sam calls it a Selection box, as her main reason for making it was to add a selection of chocolates and treats to give to friends last Christmas.

This is my version before adding the goodies.

You will need:

3 by A4 Card Stock heavy as possible 300gsm

3 12 x 12 Card stock for boxes

1 12 x 12 Card Stock 1st contrast

1 12 x 12 Card Stock 2nd contrast

 3 x A4 card stock

Cut 2 to 7.3/4” x 8.1/4” score both at 2” along the 8.1/4 side as this is the width of the box

Cut the 3 piece -:      hinges 2 pieces 3” x 1.3/8” score at 1.5”                                            Front closure    1 @  4” x 1” score at 1”                                             Side supports   2 @ 9.5/8” x 2” score at 4”                                     Back Ledge       4-6 @ 7.7/7” x 1” stick together

 Contrast 1            Box Lining         lge    8 x 5.5”                                                              Box lining sml 2 @ 5.5” x 3.7/8”                                                           Back Panel 1 @ 8” x 1.3/4”                                                                  Side panel decoration 2 @ 5.25” x 1.75”

 Contrast 2          Lid lining  2 @ 8” x 5.5"                                                                        Front panel décor 2@ 3.75 x 1.75”                                                       Back Band inside        1@ 8” x 2"                                                         Front closure            1@ 3” x 1”

Box Card          Cut 1 sheet 9.5 x 12” lge box                                                                Cut 2 sheets 8 x 9.5”                                             Score all the boxes at 1” & 2” on all four sides and cut the 2 ends to form enforced boxes.

1       make up boxes and line

2      glue back panel 4 pieces glued together) to inside base box

3      Place base onto the base card and line up evenly place the front flap in the centre and glue down, glue the box base down.

4      Glue the hinges to the outside edge of the back panel, cover the hinge ends by gluing the decorative panel along the inside of the back panel.

Glue the back of the box to the back panel

5       Sit the top boxes on the back panel and glue the sides to the flap, lining up as well as possible repeat for both sides

6      Glue the side supports on by gluing the side of the box and over the flaps, leaving the bottom of the panel that covers the base box free from glue.

7      Cover the lid inside and out with the Lid linings and glue down the back panel

8       Decorate the side and front panels with strips of contrast paper and add it to the front fastener

9       Add Velcro dot to the front fastener, I find it is better placed over the top of the box and not inside as this makes the lid sit up from the box.

10    Decorate lid and add treat

Made as a selection box, but you could add a mirror to the inside of the lid and add hair ties for a young girl

Or you could add stationery items to the trays and some cards in the base box

There are several mistakes on this box but it has enabled me to prepare these instructions with the mistakes adjusted for the Christmas boxes I wish to make. It is well worth checking out Sam's video on YouTube, as she gives great instructions and tips.

As these boxes take several hours to make, they are best made with video instructions or would make a great workshop, maybe that will be my next one when we are able to get together again.

Exploding Pop Out Card - So Bright & Cheery

 Hi Crafters

New week, new post.

Today we have an Exploding Pop-Out card, I loves these so much when I first saw them on YouTube I  made several, and then proceeded to make the cutest diddy version of them for my own Christmas cards.

Todays version is the standard card and for this I will give you the measurements and items that you need, but you will have to check out a video on YouTube for the folds as describing them on paper would not be easy for you to follow.

You need:

2 pieces A4 card

1 piece of 12 x 12

1 piece of A4 paper to coordinate

A4 card

Cut 1 piece 12” x 6” and score at 5,5&1/8, 10&1/8 ,10&1/4, 10&3/8

Cut 1 piece 10” x 3&7/8 Score @ 5”

For the steps cut      1 – 2 x 2.5 score @ ¼”, 1.5”, 2 1/4”

                        1 – 2.5 x 2&3/4” score @ ¼”, 1 ¼”,  2.5”

                        1 -  3” x 3” score @ ¼” 1.5” 2&3/4”

Patterned paper

Cut 2 pieces 6 x 10”

Cut 2 pieces 5&3/4 x 1&3/8

Cut 1 5&3/4” x 4” for the front cover

2  Velcro dots to hold the flap down

With the 12 x 6 piece fold the scored lines and smooth over to allow a curve at the top of the card as this hold the bulk.

Next take the patterned pieces and fold in half with the pattern inside, and the seam to the right, Unfold and mark the seam lines to push into a mountain fold.

Take the R bottom corner and fold it over to meet the other side making a clean point. Go over with bone folder

Now put your piece onto a lined mat and fold back to the 2” from the Right. Fold back again 1” and then the last base piece back by 1 inch

Unfold and starting with a mountain fold in the middle work to the side Fold down flat and go over with bone folder

With the curve at the seam of the card glue a section each side of the base card, then once you are happy with it lined up glue the top side and fold down the card to secure it to the top of the card

Make the steps for the centre card by putting tape to all the end ¼” flaps

Start with the 3” piece put the centre fold to centre fold take off the base piece of tape and secure then food the step back down and making sure it is straight take off the top tape. With the second step line, the wider section goes to the bottom step line up evenly, take the top tape off this time secure it to the page and then take off the base tape. Line up the top step and do the same as the bottom step.

Decorate the steps before gluing into the card

Decorate the front of the card and flap adding the 2 velcro dots at the end

It takes a little time but is worth it

Here is the finished card folded. As you can see I have not finished the front but I will add something appropriate when I know who I am sending it too.

Wow a lovely notelet set and folder from your 8 x 8 stash

Part 3 of Using Up Your Stash - 8 x 8 Papers

Hi Crafters

The last in the current series of Using up your stash.
I was going to do some ideas for your 12 x 12 papers but quite honestly you can use them up on your big projects, cut them down for the projects shown so far and use up any scraps for embellishments and bows etc
I will be running a series of how to use up your scraps later on, but there are so many great projects I want to share with you, for now I will stop at the 8 x 8 papers.

This last project is really cute little folder with matching notelets and tags.
They would make a great way of encouraging little ones to write thank you notes, or to carry in  your bag in case you  wish to give a note to someone or a thank you for a favour done.

For This Project you need:
7 sheets 8 x 8 card/papers
3 sheets of A4 papers
Corner punch, Binding Tape, Glue, ribbon

For the Wallet
Take 3 sheets of paper
Score from the bottom 5cm, Fold up and then fold in half back to the base to form your pocket, Glue top of fold down
Fold each in half with white side on outside
Glue each on top of the other to form wallet
Add a small amount of glue to the outside edges of the pages (not to the middle)
Add binding tape to the edge of your wallet
Cut another piece of 8 x 8 into 2 pieces 5” x 3 ¾”. Before adding to your wallet, place the ribbon around the wallet and and secure with double sided tape. Glue the two pieces to front and back lining up to the outside edge and covering the ribbon.
For the cards
Cut the other 3 pieces of 8 x 8 widthways and then cut each piece down to 17cm wide. Fold in half trim the corners and these form  your cards
Decorate as you wish, also use the trimmings to make matching tags

For the Envelopes

Cut the 3 sheets of A4 in half to give 6 pieces 21cm wide by 15cm tall Score at 5cm and 14cmTurn and score at 2cm top and bottom – Fold all score lines and fold sides in

Cut a notch in the bottom corners. Unfold, at the top cut down side score lines and cut off the sides

Fold in and glue base and middle seam. Trim top flap

Make up 6 envelopes this way and pop a card and envelope and a tag into each flap.

NB If you wante to make something instead of the tags with your scraps, why not use some of them to mnake covered paperclips.

Well that ends our series of Using up your Paper Stash. I hope you have enjoyed it. I have enjoyed having you all pop by my blog, it encourages me to share my makes and adds enjoyment to my crafting.

Next week I have  a couple of great cards to share with you so keep looking in.

Neat little Journal from 8 x 8 papers

Hi Crafters

Part 3 of using up your paper stash.
And this week is all about 8 x 8 papers.
I have really enjoyed designing a couple of items for this second part, although I am beginning to run out of 8 x 8 papers.

This little project is a quick and simple journal. Journals are very popular at the moment, but I love notebooks, so only  make small journals probably for a particular period in time. For example I made one for lockdown, where I kept notes about Hair problems, Progress of the lockdown and lightening of it, Weight ( a constant battle during these 18 weeks), visiting and outings missed etc.
Here is a very simple Journal that you could make for someone going on holiday or even make as a Bridesmaid's Journal.

Simply take 6 sheets of 8 x 8 and fold in half. If you have some prints you do not like as much make these the blank pages for writing on and fold these pages with the print outside. The prints you like fold with the print inside, Then glue one page on top of the other. For the outside take a pretty peice of heavier 8 x 8 and cut in half and glue to the front and back lining up the sheet to the outside edge then use either use binding tape or a strip of paper from your scrap box This needs to be 8" high and approximately 1&3/4" wide. Glue to the front lining it up with the top and bottom and keeping it as straight as possible,  glue down, fold over the edge of the book and and glue down the back side of the book, do not place glue in the middle where it covers the spine.  All that remains is to decide the closure, I made a matching bellyband but you could use elastic or ribbon closure.
NB If you do not have any heavier papers, simply cover some card with your papers before adding to the journal.

I have made a matching bellyband but you can use elastic cord, or ribbon to hold it closed
Decorate the inside with some embellishment and if you want photo mats, I have just stuck in some journalling stickers for each day of the week.

This leaves lots of room to add photographs Journal notes and Tags

This is a lovely quick project. Hope you enjoy it. Back soon with the last of the 8 x 8 projects
