Fabulous 2 Tier Box

 Hi Crafters

Todays post is all about an amazing box I have made after seeing Sam Calcott's video. Sam calls it a Selection box, as her main reason for making it was to add a selection of chocolates and treats to give to friends last Christmas.

This is my version before adding the goodies.

You will need:

3 by A4 Card Stock heavy as possible 300gsm

3 12 x 12 Card stock for boxes

1 12 x 12 Card Stock 1st contrast

1 12 x 12 Card Stock 2nd contrast

 3 x A4 card stock

Cut 2 to 7.3/4” x 8.1/4” score both at 2” along the 8.1/4 side as this is the width of the box

Cut the 3 piece -:      hinges 2 pieces 3” x 1.3/8” score at 1.5”                                            Front closure    1 @  4” x 1” score at 1”                                             Side supports   2 @ 9.5/8” x 2” score at 4”                                     Back Ledge       4-6 @ 7.7/7” x 1” stick together

 Contrast 1            Box Lining         lge    8 x 5.5”                                                              Box lining sml 2 @ 5.5” x 3.7/8”                                                           Back Panel 1 @ 8” x 1.3/4”                                                                  Side panel decoration 2 @ 5.25” x 1.75”

 Contrast 2          Lid lining  2 @ 8” x 5.5"                                                                        Front panel décor 2@ 3.75 x 1.75”                                                       Back Band inside        1@ 8” x 2"                                                         Front closure            1@ 3” x 1”

Box Card          Cut 1 sheet 9.5 x 12” lge box                                                                Cut 2 sheets 8 x 9.5”                                             Score all the boxes at 1” & 2” on all four sides and cut the 2 ends to form enforced boxes.

1       make up boxes and line

2      glue back panel 4 pieces glued together) to inside base box

3      Place base onto the base card and line up evenly place the front flap in the centre and glue down, glue the box base down.

4      Glue the hinges to the outside edge of the back panel, cover the hinge ends by gluing the decorative panel along the inside of the back panel.

Glue the back of the box to the back panel

5       Sit the top boxes on the back panel and glue the sides to the flap, lining up as well as possible repeat for both sides

6      Glue the side supports on by gluing the side of the box and over the flaps, leaving the bottom of the panel that covers the base box free from glue.

7      Cover the lid inside and out with the Lid linings and glue down the back panel

8       Decorate the side and front panels with strips of contrast paper and add it to the front fastener

9       Add Velcro dot to the front fastener, I find it is better placed over the top of the box and not inside as this makes the lid sit up from the box.

10    Decorate lid and add treat

Made as a selection box, but you could add a mirror to the inside of the lid and add hair ties for a young girl

Or you could add stationery items to the trays and some cards in the base box

There are several mistakes on this box but it has enabled me to prepare these instructions with the mistakes adjusted for the Christmas boxes I wish to make. It is well worth checking out Sam's video on YouTube, as she gives great instructions and tips.

As these boxes take several hours to make, they are best made with video instructions or would make a great workshop, maybe that will be my next one when we are able to get together again.

Exploding Pop Out Card - So Bright & Cheery

 Hi Crafters

New week, new post.

Today we have an Exploding Pop-Out card, I loves these so much when I first saw them on YouTube I  made several, and then proceeded to make the cutest diddy version of them for my own Christmas cards.

Todays version is the standard card and for this I will give you the measurements and items that you need, but you will have to check out a video on YouTube for the folds as describing them on paper would not be easy for you to follow.

You need:

2 pieces A4 card

1 piece of 12 x 12

1 piece of A4 paper to coordinate

A4 card

Cut 1 piece 12” x 6” and score at 5,5&1/8, 10&1/8 ,10&1/4, 10&3/8

Cut 1 piece 10” x 3&7/8 Score @ 5”

For the steps cut      1 – 2 x 2.5 score @ ¼”, 1.5”, 2 1/4”

                        1 – 2.5 x 2&3/4” score @ ¼”, 1 ¼”,  2.5”

                        1 -  3” x 3” score @ ¼” 1.5” 2&3/4”

Patterned paper

Cut 2 pieces 6 x 10”

Cut 2 pieces 5&3/4 x 1&3/8

Cut 1 5&3/4” x 4” for the front cover

2  Velcro dots to hold the flap down

With the 12 x 6 piece fold the scored lines and smooth over to allow a curve at the top of the card as this hold the bulk.

Next take the patterned pieces and fold in half with the pattern inside, and the seam to the right, Unfold and mark the seam lines to push into a mountain fold.

Take the R bottom corner and fold it over to meet the other side making a clean point. Go over with bone folder

Now put your piece onto a lined mat and fold back to the 2” from the Right. Fold back again 1” and then the last base piece back by 1 inch

Unfold and starting with a mountain fold in the middle work to the side Fold down flat and go over with bone folder

With the curve at the seam of the card glue a section each side of the base card, then once you are happy with it lined up glue the top side and fold down the card to secure it to the top of the card

Make the steps for the centre card by putting tape to all the end ¼” flaps

Start with the 3” piece put the centre fold to centre fold take off the base piece of tape and secure then food the step back down and making sure it is straight take off the top tape. With the second step line, the wider section goes to the bottom step line up evenly, take the top tape off this time secure it to the page and then take off the base tape. Line up the top step and do the same as the bottom step.

Decorate the steps before gluing into the card

Decorate the front of the card and flap adding the 2 velcro dots at the end

It takes a little time but is worth it

Here is the finished card folded. As you can see I have not finished the front but I will add something appropriate when I know who I am sending it too.

Wow a lovely notelet set and folder from your 8 x 8 stash

Part 3 of Using Up Your Stash - 8 x 8 Papers

Hi Crafters

The last in the current series of Using up your stash.
I was going to do some ideas for your 12 x 12 papers but quite honestly you can use them up on your big projects, cut them down for the projects shown so far and use up any scraps for embellishments and bows etc
I will be running a series of how to use up your scraps later on, but there are so many great projects I want to share with you, for now I will stop at the 8 x 8 papers.

This last project is really cute little folder with matching notelets and tags.
They would make a great way of encouraging little ones to write thank you notes, or to carry in  your bag in case you  wish to give a note to someone or a thank you for a favour done.

For This Project you need:
7 sheets 8 x 8 card/papers
3 sheets of A4 papers
Corner punch, Binding Tape, Glue, ribbon

For the Wallet
Take 3 sheets of paper
Score from the bottom 5cm, Fold up and then fold in half back to the base to form your pocket, Glue top of fold down
Fold each in half with white side on outside
Glue each on top of the other to form wallet
Add a small amount of glue to the outside edges of the pages (not to the middle)
Add binding tape to the edge of your wallet
Cut another piece of 8 x 8 into 2 pieces 5” x 3 ¾”. Before adding to your wallet, place the ribbon around the wallet and and secure with double sided tape. Glue the two pieces to front and back lining up to the outside edge and covering the ribbon.
For the cards
Cut the other 3 pieces of 8 x 8 widthways and then cut each piece down to 17cm wide. Fold in half trim the corners and these form  your cards
Decorate as you wish, also use the trimmings to make matching tags

For the Envelopes

Cut the 3 sheets of A4 in half to give 6 pieces 21cm wide by 15cm tall Score at 5cm and 14cmTurn and score at 2cm top and bottom – Fold all score lines and fold sides in

Cut a notch in the bottom corners. Unfold, at the top cut down side score lines and cut off the sides

Fold in and glue base and middle seam. Trim top flap

Make up 6 envelopes this way and pop a card and envelope and a tag into each flap.

NB If you wante to make something instead of the tags with your scraps, why not use some of them to mnake covered paperclips.

Well that ends our series of Using up your Paper Stash. I hope you have enjoyed it. I have enjoyed having you all pop by my blog, it encourages me to share my makes and adds enjoyment to my crafting.

Next week I have  a couple of great cards to share with you so keep looking in.

Neat little Journal from 8 x 8 papers

Hi Crafters

Part 3 of using up your paper stash.
And this week is all about 8 x 8 papers.
I have really enjoyed designing a couple of items for this second part, although I am beginning to run out of 8 x 8 papers.

This little project is a quick and simple journal. Journals are very popular at the moment, but I love notebooks, so only  make small journals probably for a particular period in time. For example I made one for lockdown, where I kept notes about Hair problems, Progress of the lockdown and lightening of it, Weight ( a constant battle during these 18 weeks), visiting and outings missed etc.
Here is a very simple Journal that you could make for someone going on holiday or even make as a Bridesmaid's Journal.

Simply take 6 sheets of 8 x 8 and fold in half. If you have some prints you do not like as much make these the blank pages for writing on and fold these pages with the print outside. The prints you like fold with the print inside, Then glue one page on top of the other. For the outside take a pretty peice of heavier 8 x 8 and cut in half and glue to the front and back lining up the sheet to the outside edge then use either use binding tape or a strip of paper from your scrap box This needs to be 8" high and approximately 1&3/4" wide. Glue to the front lining it up with the top and bottom and keeping it as straight as possible,  glue down, fold over the edge of the book and and glue down the back side of the book, do not place glue in the middle where it covers the spine.  All that remains is to decide the closure, I made a matching bellyband but you could use elastic or ribbon closure.
NB If you do not have any heavier papers, simply cover some card with your papers before adding to the journal.

I have made a matching bellyband but you can use elastic cord, or ribbon to hold it closed
Decorate the inside with some embellishment and if you want photo mats, I have just stuck in some journalling stickers for each day of the week.

This leaves lots of room to add photographs Journal notes and Tags

This is a lovely quick project. Hope you enjoy it. Back soon with the last of the 8 x 8 projects

Best Ever Gift Bag - Using up your 8 x 8 papers

Using up your 8 x 8 papers - Part 1

Hi Crafters
So this week is all about using up our 8 x 8 paper pads.

I do not buy many of these as I tend to purchase more of the 12 x 12 pads, but I have a couple of lovely projects for you

This first is one of the best Gift bags I have ever made, it folds flat for storage and is a great medium size.

You will need:
4 sheets of 8 x 8 papers
2 pieces of ribbon for the handles approx 10.5" long
Glue
Score board

Cut 2 of the pieces in half
If there is a directional print on the paper cut 1 sheet horizontally (one for the base and one for the lining), and 1 sheet vertically for the side panels.

Score the 1st piece of 8 x 8 at 1.5" and 7&1/8" , (if the print is directional the 1.5" score line at the base of the paper which is sideways on the scoreboard) as this line forms the base
2nd piece place sideways down again and score at 7&1/8"
For the base take one piece with print widthways and place on scoreboard with the longside down the board and score at 1/2" & 3.5"
For the 2 sides place on the scoreboard longside across the board and score at 1" & 2.5"
Turn  so the score lines are at the bottom and score at 1/2" & 3.5" plus score at 2" down to the first scoreline.
If you want to make the bag fold easily or if your card is heavier you can also score from the bottom edge of the 2" scoreline out to the 1/2" scoreline on the sides. These scorelines should be a diagonal line across the square, you are not crossing the bottom score line . Cut the bottom corners off.

With all the pieces burnish all your score lines.
First glue the front and back of the bag to the base by gluing the 1/2" scored lines on the side panels Ensure the edge of the side sits inside the score line.
Lay the bag out flat, with all the wrongside/inside of the bag facing you.
Glue the bottom flaps of the side panels on the outside and stick to the base, this should form a cross,  again the wrong side should be facing you.
Take each side one at a time and glue the scored sections, fold up the front and glue the sides to the front, repeat for the back
Then repeat this again on hte other side.
Run your bone folder or ruler inside the bag to frm down the glued strips.
You now have a bag with just the handles to add. You can do this anyway you prefer. My method is to measure in and mark the top flaps both sides at 5cm I then punched a hole out where the mark was (to the base of the flap near but not over the score line) Thread your ribbon or cord through the hole from the front of the bag and tape down about an inch with double sided tape.
I then run a good width of strong double sided tape along the inside of the flap and glue down This covers up the ends of the ribbon and you have a clean strap to the bag.

I have made 3 individual bags, 2 floral and 1 with masculine print and these were made from a card stock pad so required no lining to the base of the bag

I then made another 4 all from the same pad of paper and these all fit into one of the bags which would make a lovely gift on its own, espeically for someone who works as it is often the item like the gift bag that you forget to pick up when out shopping.

I can store the bags easily and use as I need, or make them in packs like this to gift to someone. Ideal for teachers gifts, friends and family, or to sell for school fundraisers etc.

Check in again for more ideas soon

Week 2 Using up your paper stash A5 pads Part 2

Hi Crafters

Well here is the other projects to use up your A5 papers

These are great gift card pockets, or you could use them to give out your business or contact details.
Super quick and simple to make.

You need
A5 sheet of paper for this project thin paper is better than card stock
A score board You can do it by measuring but a scoreboard makes this so simple
Any decoration you like that coordinates

Cut the paper to a square by cutting it off at 15cm
The small piece fold in half to make the card that will go in the front of the card
Now take the square and fold on the diagonal with the print on the outside
Place the folded side on the side of your scoreboard and score at 6.5cm
Open up the square turn once placing the diagonal points onto the 11cm line of your scoreboard
Score at 6.5cm and 15.5cm. These lines will be just outside the score lines made earlier.
Take off the board and fold in the top and bottom points. Then fold in half.
Fold in the sides and tuck in the ends
Place the card you made witht he end of the paper into the front fold, between the 2 sheets
A gift card or money can be placed on pocket. Most gift cards will fit snuggly inside.

Hope you enjoyed this quick coffee break make

Back next week with 8 x 8 paper projects

USing Up Your Paper Stash Week 2 - A5 pads

Using Up your Paper Stash A5 pads Part 1

Hi Crafters

Here I am back with the next part of the series - Using up Your Stash
This time A5 paper pads

I often buy these in the Works as they have some pretty prints at £2 a pad. I had a couple in my box and put them on the desk to think about designs.
A thought came to me that if I cut off the top 7cm to make a cute little notelet  the remaining 15 cm of the page would make an envelope to hold the notelet and match. The pad has 24 pages
I made 6 mini notelets
I then folded 6 pages in half and made another 6 notelets that were A6 in size and added envelopes from the craft cupboard.
I used 2 pages to cover the gift bag I made to put the items in and I had a great little gift set

The whole set used:
14 sheets of A5 papers
2 sheets of pink A4 card
6 A6 envelopes
4 split pins

To use up the A5 pad I made 6 notelets and added 6 A6 envelopes

And then used 6 sheets cut to 7cm for mini notelets leaving the remainder to make envelopes marking at 2 3/8”for the envelope maker.

I then used 2 sheets of A4 card that coordinated

Cut 1.5” off each sheet for the 12” length and score 3/8” either side and fold in, glue down and run the bone folder over to make handles.

Cut the remaining pieces 10.5” long Score both pieces

1 3/4”,2 1/4”,8 ¼”, Turn and score at 1 ¾”

From one piece cut out the bottom corners to the first score line

Second piece taper the corners ready to fold in

Glue two sides of the bag together on the bottom tabs

Lay out flat and using 2 pieces of coordinating papers score them 1” from the top and cut 2 ½” off the bottom

Glue inside the score lines and fold over the top of the bag. This strengthens the bag and makes it coordinate with the notelets

 Next add the handles

NB IF you use split pins cut 1” circles to cover the back and hot glue them on

Or use screw rivets to complete the bag look.

Hope you enjoy havinga go at this project and if you do please comment and show me your makes I would love to see them.

Back later in the week with a quick coffee break make and another lovely notelet set, this time ina folder.
